Zinio Reader and Website

Zinio is the largest digital newsstand. This project was about creating a new business model for discovering, purchasing and reading magazines. The project resulted in a responsive prototype of a reader and created a new pricing model. As the Creative Lead, I led a design team on multiple tracks of work from 11/2010 – 08/2011.

The Trend Towards Mobile Web

Many of us here have been interested in the idea of the browser-based mobile web. In June, we saw the  first really impressive example of this when the Financial Times moved from an iTunes app to a mobile website. What this means is that readers of this international, business daily will bypass Apple’s iTunes and access the app via the browser. For users, this isn’t a big deal. For a straightforward, mostly-text reading, application the interactions are comparable to the iTunes app. Users get the benefit of not having to install updates and they can still create an icon on their home screen. Blurb Bookify

This new Blurb product is aimed at casual bookmakers who might want to make a book in an hour or an evening. The new online application is a complement to the existing Blurb desktop app that requires more of a time commitment. The app was built in Flex and uses direct manipulation to mimic how a user might layout out photos in an album. The user drags photos to a page to create automatic layouts or have the application layout the entire book for them. I was the lead User Experience Designer on a design team of three from 01/2010 – 06/2010.
